Do you have a wedding or event to plan for or style but no idea where to start on selecting florals? Don’t panic, we’ve got you covered! Our lovely stylists have teamed up with our talented florist and friend, Tonia Blume from Blumette, and have put together a quick cheat-sheet to get you started…

COLOUR PALETTE

What is the overall colour scheme for your wedding? Or have a corporate event? If so, why not think about incorporating brand colours?

FLORALS vs FOLIAGE

Don't feel as if flowers are your only option. Flowers can be pricey. If you're on a tight budget but still want that fresh element to your event, foliage arrangements can be equally beautiful, sans-florals.

TIS’ THE SEASON

Don’t shy away from doing your research into seasonal availabilities of different flowers. If flowers aren't in season, it doesn’t mean they are impossible to obtain, however it will be more pricey as florists will typically have to import these specially. So, if your heart is set on peonies, but your event is taking place in winter, you still may be able to fulfil your peony dream but it will come at an additional cost. Alternatively, what’s the worst that could happen?.. You discover amazing floral styles that are in-season and in-abundance, creating a whole new look and feel that you may never have imagined? All while saving a pretty penny?… We say, yes please!

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY

If you are budget conscious, be open to compromise in designing your florals. For example, if you are after a key flower which is quite pricey, think about making these a FEATURE and bulking out your arrangement with more foliage. This way, you still get a full look with your fav flowers, yet it’s more affordable. Yay!

Gorgeous flowers needn’t cost you a fortune. It helps to have a clear idea of your budget before meeting with your florist or stylist. Remember that they want to create florals that suit YOUR style and match YOUR requirements, so be realistic and honest about what you want to spend - this will give them the best chance to create exactly what you envision.

If you already have a clear idea of your style, plus a checklist of any ‘must haves’, a good florist will be able to guide you through the quote process, suggesting where your money is best spent so you can achieve the look you want. If you are completely new to the game ask your florist to provide you with a general price guide to give you an overview of cost prior to meeting.

SUSTAINABILITY & DURABILITY

Have you thought of using preserved florals? If you are hosting various events within a short period of time, ordering fresh florals for each event can become quite a pricey endeavour. One way to avoid this could be to purchase preserved floral arrangements which can be reused for each event. What's more, they will last forever so you can use them to decorate the office or have as a keepsake after your event concludes.

HOW BIG SHOULD I GO?

Remember, floral arrangements aren’t your only option. Large floral arrangements are typically a more expensive option, so think about how you can utilise florals in different ways. For example, shop our collections which have been specifically designed to look great, both with or without florals. Our range of vases and tealights are all able to house florals.

And don’t forget that tealight votives look great with small posies, or a single flower head. Or what about placing individual leaves within bud vases? Don't be afraid to think out of the box!

CHOOSING YOUR FLORIST

There are so many amazing florists around - it can be hard to know where to start. Keep your eye on Instagram, its a great place to watch trends unfold, to keep track of “who’s who” in the wedding/event scenes and to understand the natural style of individual florists. If you and your florist are aligned in style, you can be sure that they will nail the look that you want for event.
